Hi there, I’m thinking of installing WarmlyYours over the wood subfloor of my new sunroom. I understand that installation over a cement slab will warm the slab somewhat and keep the heat; however, installing over wood would just dissipate heat through the wood, right?

Should there be some sort of thermal barrier over the wood before installing the mats and tile?

Thanks.

Lorna,

When using a heating system over a concrete slab, I would recommend insulating over the slab. Heat is going to transfer to the cooler area first (which is generally going to be the slab), so you are going to be looking at longer warm up times, as well as reduced effectiveness in the system in general – the insulation will protect against this.

As far as doing an install over a wood sub-floor, wood is a fairly decent insulator, so, if you were using the heating system over an area that was heated, I wouldn’t be too concerned with insulating the sub-floor. When in doubt, insulation will never hurt the system, it can only help.

I hope this information helps you out! If theres anything else I can do for you, please let me know!
