Leave Linoleum?

The linoleum installed over the plywood subfloor is still in good shape. I am installing a 1/4” thick cement backerboard with screws every 6” as well. My question is, do I need to remove the existing linoleum or can I lay the backerboard directly over it? I dont want issues with odor if the linoleum could cause any, but I imagine the remaining glue left behinid after scraping off the linoleum could be just as bad? My plan was to install the backerboard, attach the mesh directly to the backerboard, and then lay my thinset and quarry tile in one application over the mesh and wire.

There should be absolutely no problems installing over the existing floor. My only advice is to make sure you set the screws well, if the heating wire touches one of the screws there is a chance for overheating in that area. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks! I made sure the screws were countersunk, but I think I’ll spackle a little of the thinset over them this weekend to be safe!

That would work perfectly. Good luck with your project!
